Willow Beach Corp of Engineers Park:

From Interstate 440, which joins I-30 and I-40 as a ring road around the city center, take the England exit onto Highway 165, go east 3 miles and then take a road on your right marked Terry Lock and Dam, and cross the railroad tracks. Continue about 2 miles then turn right onto the Park's access road.

There are marshy areas on either side of the access road, look for Green-backed Heron, Prothonotary Warbler Wood Duck, Redheaded Woodpecker and egrets. Enter the gates and look for Scissor-tailed Flycatchers perching on Park signposts. Continue into the area and an offshoot of the Arkansas River is dead ahead. A popular fishing pier overlooks this, and is a good place for White Pelican, Osprey, and terns during migration.

Take the road parallel to the river and park anywhere permitted along here. On foot cross the road into the brushy area, which usually has paths cut into it by the Park staff. Insect repellent is highly recommended here, as ticks and chiggers are a nuisance. In the spring and summer expect Painted Bunting, Bells Vireo, Common Yellowthroat, Yellow-breasted Chat, Blue Grosbeak, Indigo Bunting, and Orchard Oriole.

On leaving the Park take a right and continue down to the Terry Lock and Dam. Herons, egrets, ducks, cormorants and gulls are seen along the river.
